Sometimes, I just feel like I need to scream. I'm sure everyone can relate.
No, this isn't an ad for antidepressants. This is probably the most confused I've felt in a long time. Okay, I work at a bank. When I started working at the bank, I thought I had finally figured out which career field would make me happy. Well, now I'm figuring out that maybe the "business world" isn't exactly for me. So here's the thing: I'm in my second semester of my sophomore year in college, and now I think I'm pursuing the wrong degree. It wouldn't be so confusing if I hadn't changed career paths about 4 times in the last 2 years.
This is how it happened: I had some signs. A couple signs were very small, like 3 different personality tests saying I should be a nurse. Nursing was actually my career choice not too long ago. Then, something crazy happened. A few weeks ago, I was driving to school on I-220 when, for some unknown reason, I looked over in my driver's side mirror and saw a young man flip his motorcycle into the median! I mean, I saw the entire thing! With out even thinking, I pulled over, put my flashers on, grabbed my phone, and ran back to the guy. I called 911 and gave accurate directions (a first for me!) and took care of him until EMTs loaded him up in the ambulance. He wasn't hurt nearly as bad as I thought he would be, but, replaying it in my head, it could have been MUCH worse. But the way I handled it and they way I felt the whole time just felt so natural. About a week later, I told my husband that helping that man and being there for the duration of the event was the most rewarding feeling I had experienced in so long.
So, I had about 3 signs in the same week, and honestly I had already started second-guessing my business career. So, if you are reading this, please tell me if anything like this has ever happened to you. Do you believe in signs? If you do, have your signs been correct? Tell me your thoughts-I could really use some help.

That is a big sign! If you felt comfortable and confident handling that scary situation, then nursing sounds like it could be something for you! If you don't think that business is right, then don't pursue it because it won't make you happy. I've changed my major 5 times (nursing was actually one!) and finally found that business is right for me. That's funny how we are the opposite in that perspective. Follow your gut instincts...good luck!
ReplyDeleteYou must be in a profession that makes you happy. If you aren't you will end up a miserable person and will also make those around you miserable. If you are not happy now with taking business classes, I do not see you being happy in a business profession. Go with your heart and good luck with your decision. Denise Morgan
ReplyDeleteI totally think that you are being guided to a different career path by the cosmos. I also work at a bank and I can say this. It's a good job. It's steady. You can always find a job if you have banking experience. However, if I wasn't so focused on being "successful" I would be doing something totally different. Something you want to be when you're a kid...like nurse or cop or firefighter or astronaught or lumberjack or pilot or karate instructor. We let our ambitions push aside our desires, and it seems like what you truly want is screaming to be noticed.
ReplyDeleteWhat I like most about blogs is the intimacy of them--people can ask questions and receive support.
ReplyDeleteI spent 30 years in various businesses--manufacturing, banking, law, government, accounting--all in an effort to avoid teaching, for which I had a degree. In every job I had, I ended up teaching. So, when the opportunity presented itself, guess where I ended up? Teaching.
Go with your heart. It usually knows (except when you get involved with the wrong person--that's just chemistry!). Good luck.
