My Favorite Time of the Year

Fall is now in full swing, and this is absolutely my favorite season! I love hunting, horses, and football, and fall is the time for all of these! I actually just got off of my horse, and there is nothing more fun that riding through the woods on horseback in the cool air and seeing the red, orange, and yellow leaves falling around you. It's amazing. And my New Orleans Saints are giving me even more reasons to love fall! Super Bowl 2010, here we come! I really love deer hunting, and I shot my first deer last Sunday! My husband was so proud! It was an 8 point, about 160 lbs. Thanksgiving is also on its way! But while, I love Thanksgiving, I've already started decorating for Christmas! So, I want to know-what is your favorite time of the year?

Finding Motivation

I always have a difficult time trying to stay motivated about certain things: going to work, going to school, cleaning my house, etc. Working out is also something I have a hard time doing. My husband and I have a couple of friends getting married in December, and I plan on wearing something chic and leggy. This is currently my biggest motivation to shape up. I bought a new scale that tells me my weight, body fat, muscle mass, bone mass, and body water level. I have cut out sodas, snacking, and fried foods. I have also started a stricter workout routine. But recently, I read something about health insurance companies offering better benefits for those people who are in better shape "weight wise." I think this might not be such a bad idea. It would make people wake up and think twice about fast food, soft drinks, and lounging-around. It is scientifically proven that people classified as “overweight” have a much higher risk of developing serious health problems, which means more medical visits, so unhealthy people are seen as bigger risks when it comes to health coverage. If this is what it takes to get some people motivated, then bring it on.

Fall Break!

Blogging from the truck right now...my husband and I stayed at a cabin in Prim, AR for the weekend. However, we're cutting the trip a bit short since some of our cows are out! So much for getting away from it all. Oh well- it was a blast while it lasted. We rode the four-wheeler, hand-fed raccoons, explored nearby towns, and enjoyed being with each other. When we get home (and round up the fugitive cows) I'll post pics of where we stayed and our new furry friends!

Told ya I would do it.

I told everyone last week that I would post some pictures of the rodeo that my husband and I worked at a couple of weeks ago, so here they are. My husband is the guy in the blue and white plaid on the gray horse.

So yesterday, I was driving to school and it was storming. I was going down the interstate and I looked up and saw this black car driving WITHOUT THEIR LIGHTS ON! I mean, who does this? it's 8:30 in the morning and it's storming, and you're driving 70mph down an interstate with your lights off? UGH!

I hate several pet peeves, but I'm not sure the term "pet peeves" is strong enough. I have several things that flat out irritate me. This person irritated me. I also hate when people wait until the absolute last second to switch lanes when they are going through a construction zone and the road is cut to one lane. People: this is one huge reason that traffic gets backed up at con-zones. Get your butt over when you start seeing the signs that tell you to do so.

Sorry, I'm ranting. But everyone has to do it every now and then. What are some of your "pet peeves?" What do random people do sometimes that makes you want to shake them and say "HELLO! What are you DOING?" Haha...give me some stories.

Thank you, everyone!

I wanted to thank everyone who responded to my last post! You are all very helpful and supportive!

I have decided to go ahead and pursue nursing. The more that I talk to people in the profession the more excited I become. I think I will be very happy with my choice. Since I have been in college, I have learned this: I truly envy those people who grow up with a dream of what they want to be or do, and they continue to be focused on that.

I am also excited about nursing because I can work part-time so my husband and I can start a family and spend time on my favorite part of my life: my cows and horses! Oh that reminds me-my husband and I worked an LRCA rodeo last weekend and later, when I get home, I will post some pictures!

So I want to know this: have you always known what you wanted to be when you "grew up?" are you still figuring it out? Let me know your thoughts. And, if you could have your "dream job", what would it be?

I'm so confused, I can't even pick a good title for this post.

Sometimes, I just feel like I need to scream. I'm sure everyone can relate.

No, this isn't an ad for antidepressants. This is probably the most confused I've felt in a long time. Okay, I work at a bank. When I started working at the bank, I thought I had finally figured out which career field would make me happy. Well, now I'm figuring out that maybe the "business world" isn't exactly for me. So here's the thing: I'm in my second semester of my sophomore year in college, and now I think I'm pursuing the wrong degree. It wouldn't be so confusing if I hadn't changed career paths about 4 times in the last 2 years.

This is how it happened: I had some signs. A couple signs were very small, like 3 different personality tests saying I should be a nurse. Nursing was actually my career choice not too long ago. Then, something crazy happened. A few weeks ago, I was driving to school on I-220 when, for some unknown reason, I looked over in my driver's side mirror and saw a young man flip his motorcycle into the median! I mean, I saw the entire thing! With out even thinking, I pulled over, put my flashers on, grabbed my phone, and ran back to the guy. I called 911 and gave accurate directions (a first for me!) and took care of him until EMTs loaded him up in the ambulance. He wasn't hurt nearly as bad as I thought he would be, but, replaying it in my head, it could have been MUCH worse. But the way I handled it and they way I felt the whole time just felt so natural. About a week later, I told my husband that helping that man and being there for the duration of the event was the most rewarding feeling I had experienced in so long.

So, I had about 3 signs in the same week, and honestly I had already started second-guessing my business career. So, if you are reading this, please tell me if anything like this has ever happened to you. Do you believe in signs? If you do, have your signs been correct? Tell me your thoughts-I could really use some help.

Introducing...Me!

Hi everyone! This is my first post on my new blog, so I thought I would tell everyone a little bit about myself. My name is Katy and I am from Louisiana. I have been married for a little over a year to love of my life and best friend, Justin. We have no human children, but we do have about 20 cows, 3 horses, 2 dogs, and a cat. I am majoring in accounting at LSUS, but I work part-time in banking. In my free time, I like to ride my horses, ride 4-wheelers, shop, and spend time with friends and family. When I get my BA in Accounting, I hope to work my way up a little at my current job and pursue my MBA. I am very interested in working for the Louisiana Ag Agency when I have gained a little more business experience. Well, this is me-love me or leave me.
